Full Version: Reporting Fake Auction Numbers
knowknockoffsforum > General Discussion > General Questions & Comments
Mad Max
Just a reminder that ANY auctions that you report MUST be obvious fakes - if you are in doubt about any one feature being fake, please do NOT report it as such. Post a link to the auction in question and others will help make the determination.

KKO has a very good reputation in terms of IDing FAKE items and needs your help to maintain our credibility.

A big THANK YOU to everyone that helps to report! 46thumbsup.gif

I have a general question regarding reporting fake auction numbers, actually a couple questions. Since my arrival here I have been trying to learn by checking most postings to view the fake item so I can continue to learn identification, and everyone has been very wonderful and patient with me.

1) I have been reporting listings that other KKO members have posted to the forum as fakes. I notice that sometimes members will list that they reported a listing, should I be doing this?

2) Will eBay ever ask me why I reported a bag as a fake?

3) I notice that some listings get pulled very fast, but others stay on for days, is that because not enough people have reported the listing?

4) What happens if I inadvertantly report the same item number multiple times? I have noticed that when I report items sometimes I forget if that was a listing from a posting I read the previous day and dont want the 'powers to be' to have a problem if I report the same thing more than once.

For those that post the auction numbers of fakes, I sure appreciate it as I am still learning about fake identification. I sure enjoy seeing these listings pulled!

Thank you,
Shannon (Mepasogirl)

Sometimes we report here that we've reported the item and sometimes we don't. Personally I report so many independently that I just don't take the time to post any of the new fake listings here nor leave a note that I've reported whats already here. I'd be on this site literally hours a day and 1/2 the fakes I report from Ebay wouldn't get reported for the time it takes to search a seller here and post the info needed for all to report as well. Its a team effort here so it is good for others to see that their efforts to list items here on KKO are appreciated and followed up on. The bottom line is that they get reported.
Ebay won't ever ask you why you reported an item. They can't keep up with our reports as it is and would never have the time to email reporters. They supposedly look at your report, which has no back up info, and make the decision themselves. You'll read here all the time where the KKO girls get frustrated because we report an obvious fake 20 times and it remains listed. If its a powerstealer eBay ignores the reports 99 times out of 100.
It depends on who sees the report. Some days these things get pulled in one day and I think its because its either someone who knows our team and respects out opinion enough to just pull it, and other days I think its somebody totally untrained and unfamiliar with the items they are looking at. But no matter which it is, they still ignore the powerstealers diligently (sp) for weeks because they are told to. I believe that 100%!
Items reported more than once a day by the same person are ignored. That is, after the first report from someone the rest are ignored from that person for that day. Feel free to report daily. It sure can't hurt! I've heard it said that if an item is reported by at least 3 different people they pull it, but again, the rules don't apply to powerstealers. There really is no set rules.
Reviewing everyones reports here is the way you learn best. Since we can't list specifics here because then we help the counterfeiters, anytime you have questions feel free to PM any of us and we'll tell you what we see.
I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your post, Judy. It certainly helped to clear things up for me and I will continue to report items as much as possible. I didn't think that eBay had the time to mess with me (or anyone else) but I wanted to make sure as I am mostly taking everyone elses word that the items are fake (except I am learning and am getting a little better I hope.)

Have a great day! 48worship.gif

To add a picture to a post, do the following:

First, when you find a listing you want to post the picture of, right click on the picture and save it to your computer. Then to add the picture to the post, scroll down in the post to the File Attachments. Browse in your files to find the picture, click on it, then click on Add this Attachment. Once you've clicked on "Add this Attachment," if you scroll down, you'll see that a new box popped up. Then click on Add into Post.

Hello everyone! I came across this buyer yesterday and I thought it was questionable. But I want everyones opionion on it. It just seems rather odd to me. The seller is Chtay001. They have several bags and they look beautiful and authentic. I am just wondering why they keep the serial number a secret until the end and then only the buyer sees it???? I wrote them asking about it and they replied "In order to protect our buyer,we purposely blocked the serial number as you have to get the serial number to register the bag on Coach website. You can view our customer feedback to justify our product authenticity. Thanks for asking. Anyway what do you all think?

Also could you all look at this one for me too. The serial number looks odd to me. THANKS! 270121488292

My only concern is that she seems to reuse her pictures over and over again... instead of providing pics of each individual bag. The bag in the picture provided does look authentic and she does have very nice feedback. Perhaps she feels that she is preventing the "bad guys" from using her pictures to make a really good fake bag by keeping the serial number hidden... or perhaps she knows that the style number in the serial number does not match up to the bags she has listed... how can anyone tell?

When a seller won't give the serial number, I would question the authenticity. Obviously the seller doesn't know anything about Coach and thinks that each serial number is unique. Without even looking at the listings, I'm willing to be that they are 47thumbdown.gif

I've looked at her listings and I don't think they are her pictures! The gallery picture is THIS ONE, COPIED FROM THE COACH WEBSITE The others look like they've been stolen from another website or another seller also. Also, I've seen MANY fake diaper bags on ebay. But my guess stands as to the seller's knowledge of Coach products. I don't recommend buying from any seller who refuses to post the serial number (or at least tell you what it is if you ask.)

Yes, when items are confirmed as fake, we report them using the "counterfeit/replica" link:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/replica-counterfeit.html

(When you see the 47thumbdown.gif (thumbs down) smilie, the item is definitely fake and reportable.) And if enough reports come in for items, ebay will review them and hopefully, pull the listing and notify the seller of the violation.

Well I will report it too and hopefully they will pull it off. Thanks for the help I am still learning.

Her reasoning of hiding the serial numbers to prevent a false registration, I believe, is bogus!! You call the Coach line to register your bag, and they do NOT check it. You can register a fake number and nothing red flags it, so that is a non-excuse to hide the numbers from buyers.

That bag is a REALLY bad fake, and so is the wallet. Please report both.
