About a week and a half ago I had some dooney & bourke purses up for auction. To my surprise they went for way more than they were worth. Almost twice as much. Now I come back from vacation and list this awesome dooney & bourke set and nothing. I did some looking around and there seems to be some sort of slump on handbag sales on ebay. and to boot there is hardly any fakes to make fun of. Did I miss something.
thanks for letting me rant!

I thought it was pretty slow too, but all of a sudden I sold one tonight that I had raised the price on in frustration because it didn't sell 5 times in a row and the fees were killing me. Someone did a buy it now and shocked me! I haven't noticed a slow down on the fakes though.

I removed my reserve in hopes to encourage bidding. It's sitting on 0.01 with a little under 6 days left. Normally I at least get one bid within the first 24 hours.

I sold a Dooney a week or so ago for a lot more than I thought it would bring (some lady in London REALLY wanted this bag and she kept bidding!). Dooney is so easy to sell, especially the ugly ones!... the tough ones are Coach. I have a Coach Soho Laced Leather Hobo that just won't sell.

It's such a nice purse... but apparently other people must have gotten theirs for 80% off because they are all selling for less than what I paid!

I start everything at either my break even point or higher anymore. I have been burned too many times. I think a lot of new sellers don't calculate the fees when they list. I have seen some items selling way below what I paid for them. It isn't worth my time to make $1.00 an item.

For me it's all about real estate! I'm selling my handbags for more room in my closet. This is how I work.... I buy a new handbag use it twice... sell them as used usually for 30-40 dollars less than what I paid for them. That way both my husband and I are happy. I get new handbags, He keeps his ever shrinking side of the closet. HEHE!

I've got an ugly one up for auction now. D&B Medium Stretch Slouch with matching wallet in Grass Green with honey leather trim. It's so ugly it's cute! I would keep it but the Medium Slouch is way too big for me.

LOL! Well I've sold quite a few Tartan print bags and they always sell for surprisingly a lot. Can't figure out WHY though!

Oh god yes! My starting bid is always enough for me to break even... unless of course the item accidentally hung around too long for me to take it back to the store! LOL! I've had to take losses in that case... no sense in raking up MORE ebay fees when the item won't sell for what I want it too. And if I can't take it back... then I take a loss. I try to AVOID doing that though!

Those tartan bags are so ugly. I really dislike the tattoo, ice pop, doodle, candy and picnic. I'm sure that they sell allot of those styles.

I sorta follow K13's system. The closet is getting full again. My daughter is getting one of my newer LVs for her birthday except I replaced it with a Brighton and Isabella Fiore. I think I'm going to liquidate the Coach and Dooneys (except two) in the closet.

I love LV. I'm so mad at macy's. They took over our local department store marshall fields, Thus in minnesota you can't buy LVs. I've got to drive all the way to chicago. I can't image buying that expensive of a handbag without actually holding it first.

I just sold the LARGE Coach Lace hobo. I listed it 5 times for barely over what I paid for it which was less than $300. It retails for $798. I had finally decided to keep it but thought I would give it one more shot, but Ebay fees were killing me. This time I raised the price by $20 starting price and BIN $20 higher. Someone bought it using BIN! I almost fainted!

Congratulations! The timing has to be just right, the buyer has to be looking at the same time you've got it posted, etc. Glad it worked out this time!

K13...I have to travel 8-10 hours to get to an LV boutique thus I buy online from eluxury.
Annie
Mar 7 2007, 08:27 PM
Yep... nearest LV store is 8 hours away from me.

I've bought from eluxury if I've wanted new ones and I've bought from some great resellers (hehe, yes they do exist!) if I've wanted used ones. I may pop into one though next year though since my mother in law seems to think everyone needs to go to Disney World... well, okay... but only if SHE pays for the plane tickets and I get to hit the purse boutiques and outlets!

Sheesh, I thought I was disadvantaged!! I have to go about an hour to see any of the real high end bags.
I saw my first Chanel bag in person today ( well that I knew for 100% was authentic). They are so gorgeous!! Someday,

I just cannot justify such a purchase just yet, at my relatively young age.

OMG! KFP, I think your good luck just rubbed off on me!!! Someone did the buy it now on my Coach beaded pouch! Yeah!!! This was only my first time listing it too, and I was pretty unsure about it because there were so many other ones out there. So I set the buy it now at a price where I would make $20... so it would not be too high in comparison to the others... and someone actually bought it! Yippee!!!!

Another thing about buying from elux is that you have 30 days to return the item. Yeah, you will be out the cost of shipping but it is much cheaper that driving several hours to a boutique.
I'm going to Seattle either in April or May and plan to hit the boutique to try on my next LV purchase.

I can drive 45 minutes to see some designer bags like Burberry, Juicy, Marc Jacobs, etc. It a Von Maur store that is in the next city over... the one in my city only has a couple of Juicy bags and none of the others.

But there isn't anywhere around here that carries stuff like LV, Chanel, or Dior. I have to drive to another state to find those! LOL!
Wendy - I'm definately going to find a way to hit an LV boutique if I go to Florida next year... hehe, but I'm more interested in the outlets they have there. They have a Dior, Burberry, Coach, Dooney, and Fendi outlet.

Von Maur store
I love Von maur. They have a great selection of dooney bags. As for "elux" I've purchased a couple of pairs of shoes there. I'll have to try buying a handbag from them.

Speaking of all of these high end bags, does anyone know what type of prices in comparison to US dollars that you would pay for an LV in London??? We are planning a trip there in the next year and if it would be more reasonable, I want to start saving my pennies now. What about some of the other high end designers?? How do their prices compare to here in the US?? Thanks!
Annie
Mar 9 2007, 01:38 PM
I have heard that they are cheaper... but not by a whole lot. I suppose its just the price without the cost of having to ship it to the US and pay tariffs on it and what not.
